Honor Flight – Bluegrass Chapter asked if I could make Uncle Sam give a salute for a campaign to promote an upcoming Honor Flight for World War II and Korean veterans. It was a little difficult to get it to look right, but in the end it was an effective way to grab the attention of the older veterans. Uncle Sam became an icon 100 years ago when James Montgomery Flagg painted it for a cover of Leslie’s Weekly to promote preparedness. The image became so popular it was used later to recruit soldiers for World War II. Honor Flight is dedicated to celebrating these heroes with their program. If you know any WWII or Korean War Veterans interested in taking part in an Honor Flight Mission to Washington DC on May 10th please have them call (888) 989-1941 or visit www.honorflightbluegrass.org for more information.
